No valley too deep, no mountain too high for TR’s Avril McNeil
Newton Aycliffe employee raises over £600 for charity after completing white-knuckle zipwire challenge
Avril McNeil, automotive strategic support at TR Fastenings (TR)’s North East division, has completed a gruelling series of zipwire challenges across sheer mountain faces and deep caverns in the Welsh countryside. The challenge has seen Avril raise over £600 for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation
, smashing her £500 target.
Avril and her colleague, former RAF Sergeant Sid Nicholson, completed the challenge at Titan Zipworld
near Blaenau Ffestiniog in Wales on 29th
July. The pair tackled three different zipwires named Alpha, Bravo and Charlie. Alpha spans 890 metres, takes over 100 seconds and reaches speeds of 65 miles per hour, Bravo is 630 m, 90 seconds and 75 mph and Charlie is 450m, 55 seconds and 57 mph.
After a short break and some intensive training, Avril completed a second set of challenges in the Zip World Caverns underneath the Snowdonian countryside. This included climbing up sheer rock faces and crossing a series of rope bridges and zip wires over deep, dark caverns accompanied by amazing lighting effects.
Avril comments: “The zipwires were fun and exhilarating, especially Bravo which was the fastest. Travelling through the caverns was the most terrifying thing I’ve ever done, but the relief and pride I felt afterwards were well worth the fear, and it was such an incredible experience. I was in a group of 12 with 11 guys on a stag do, and we all helped each other out and encouraged each other to keep going. I’m thrilled to have raised so much money for a very worthy cause and it’s fantastic to say I’ve completed such a physical and unusual challenge. And I’ve got away with fewer bruises than I thought!”
