TR Supports Grass Roots Cricket in Sussex
Donation Given to Hadlow Down Playing Field Association’s ‘Cricket Roller’ Project
TR Fastenings is making a donation towards new equipment which will support club level cricket at Hadlow Down, an East Sussex village just six miles away from the company’s headquarters in Uckfield.
With its Cricket Roller Project, the Hadlow Down Playing Field Association is raising funds to replace the pedestrianised roller it has relied on to keep pitches smooth since first registering as a charity in 1975. A newer, bigger, mechanised roller will work more quickly and efficiently, allowing fuller use of the five wickets currently in action and returning two further wickets to service.
Located within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Hadlow Down cricket field hosts nearly 50 cricket matches each season, seeing action on Saturdays and Sundays. The venue is home to Hadlow Down & Moulsecoomb Wanderers Cricket Club as well as Buxted Park Cricket Club. In July this year, as part of a week-long sports and recreation festival organised by the Hadlow Down Playing Field trustees, the venue will also stage a ‘Chance to Shine’ cricket tournament involving several local primary schools.
Mark Belton, CEO of TR’s parent company Trifast plc, commented: “TR has always been proud to support local communities, and what could be more appropriate in Sussex than helping grass roots cricket? This is the county where the sport first really took hold all those years ago, before growing to have a global presence – a story which parallels our own!”
The Cricket Roller Project is very close to reaching its target of nearly £1600. The majority of funds raised so far have come from community events organised by the Playing Field Association such as pop up meals, village quizzes, and an annual bonfire and fireworks evening. Grants have also been donated by the Gatwick Airport Community Trust, Tesco Bags of Help scheme, Waitrose Community Matters scheme and Sport England. But, as importantly, the Playing Field Association has received financial support from other village organisations such as the Village Fayre, the Variety Club, the Tap Club and Hadlow Down & Moulescoomb Wanderers CC.
