TR Fastenings Sponsors Vital Transport Scheme: Access2Healthcare
TR Fastenings (TR) is proudly supporting the Access2Healthcare (A2H) scheme, a community project transport project for people who cannot drive and who have no access to public transport, and need to visit their doctor or nurse. The scheme is an essential service as the NHS does not provide transport for journeys of this nature and patients have to make their own arrangements for keeping appointments.
This amazing project is run by Wealden Bus Alliance CIC, and began in late 2014 when East Sussex County Council donated a “Kick Start” funding grant of £7,000.
A pilot scheme began in Uckfield in 2015, with two drivers serving four local surgeries. To date, they have assisted getting an incredible 1200 patients to their doctor or nurse appointments. The scheme has now expanded to retain nineteen volunteer drivers, and since October 2017, also services surgeries in Hailsham, Hurstmonceux, Rotherfield and Crowborough. Community is at the heart of the scheme, with costs to patients minimised; a return journey is an affordable £5.
The service has a central booking office/call centre in Newhaven that is open Monday-Friday 8am to 4pm, which manages the overall scheme: It accepts bookings, contacts and allocates drivers, confirms the patients booking, handles DBS checks and maintains driver and customer records.
All of the drivers are paid the national standard mileage allowance and the company’s directors and management team are all volunteers, receiving no payment.
Geoff Budd, TR’s European Managing Director, commented: “Access 2 Healthcare is a vital service provided by a professional and dedicated team that helps those in need. TR wholly supports the work that A2H is doing as, like us, their vision is about people and providing value to them.”
