TR North East employees complete 50 mile bike ride and raise £2000 for local boy

Regan Golightly and Troy Race from TR’s Newton Aycliffe site have successfully completed a gruelling 50 mile bike ride around the North East and have raised £2000 towards a trip of a lifetime for a local boy suffering from a terminal illness.

Kyran Richmond, who is 13 and lives in Chilton, a few miles from Newton Aycliffe, has Juvenile Batten Disease, a rare genetic metabolic neurodegenerative condition with no cure available. Kyran would love to visit the Real Madrid’s famous Bernabeu stadium in Spain and Troy and Regan took on the 50 mile challenge to raise money for the trip.

The challenge saw Troy, Regan and a number of other local fundraisers cycle around the region, starting and finishing in Ferryhill, on Saturday the 8th July. The ride took 3 hours and Regan burnt off an impressive 3985 calories during the challenge.

The money raised was handed over to Kyran and his family at a special ceremony on Wednesday 12th July in Ferryhill.

Regan commented “It was a privilege to complete this challenge to raise money for such a brave and inspiring local lad, and the thought of helping Kyran reach the Bernebeu really kept us going throughout the ride. Our thanks go to all the sponsors who helped us to reach such a fantastic amount.”

Regan Golightly and Troy Race from TR’s Newton Aycliffe site are taking part in a 50 mile bike ride around the North East to raise funds for a local youngster battling a devastating disease.

Kyran Richmond, who is 13, lives in Chilton, four miles away from TR’s North East base. He has Juvenile Batten Disease, a rare genetic metabolic neurodegenerative condition with no cure available. Kyran suffers from epilepsy and night terrors and will lose the ability to walk, talk eat and see as well as developing dementia and symptoms similar to Parkinsons.
