Local lighting star Scott O’Hara named Uckfield’s ‘Young Person of the Year’
TR Fastenings sponsored the category at the Uckfield Community Awards held on 11th November
TR Fastenings (TR) offers its congratulations to 15-year-old Scott O’Hara, who won the TR-sponsored ‘Young Person of the year’ title at the Uckfield Community awards, held last month.
The title is awarded to a young person, under the age of 18, who has shown bravery in overcoming adversity or who has excelled in a certain field, demonstrating a huge personal achievement.
Scott, 15, from Uckfield, was nominated for his incredible community work, delivered via his passion for stage lighting and sound. Over the past two years, Scott has provided stage lighting and sound for his school events and shows, the Uckfield Festival and the 'Blues & Roots Festival', also in Uckfield.
Scott has applied himself not only to his lighting and sound work, but also to establishing a future career for himself as an electrician. Scott has participated in a ‘training for work’ placement at Sussex Electrical Systems in Crowborough and the bosses at the firm were so impressed by his work and attitude that they offered him an apprenticeship when he leaves school next year.
This is the first time that TR has sponsored a category at the Uckfield Community Awards.
Geoff Budd, Managing Director for Europe at TR Fastenings, adds: “It was a real honour to sponsor the Young Person of the Year category this year and it was very humbling to read all the inspiring stories about the nominees.
“We congratulate Scott for being a worthy winner: his dedication to his craft, his passion and the help he lends to his local community are admirable, and we wish him the very best of luck for the future.”
