Automechanika 2017 delivers further success for TR Fastenings
Global fasteners firm TR Fastenings (TR) has enjoyed yet another successful year at Automechanika Birmingham, which returned to the NEC for the second time from 6-8th June.
TR, part of Trifast plc, is a full service provider to the automotive industry specialising in supply to the Tier 1 market. TR’s global reach extends to 27 sites, with manufacturing facilities accredited to TS 16949. Globally, it produces more than 50 billion components annually to over 5,000 customers. The company returned to exhibit at Automechanika after a highly successful stint in 2016 and again reported great results, following introductions to a number of potential partners and customers at its stand. This year, in a new move for the show, companies such as TR were placed in a new supplier zone, meaning that visitors were more targeted and suited to businesses supplying Tier 1 companies.
Glenda Roberts, Group Sales and Marketing Director at TR, commented: “We exhibited at the show in 2016 and we were very pleased with the exposure and results it gave us. Returning this year, we found that the although the footfall was less due to the supplier zone being segregated from the aftermarket area, the visitors to our stand were more aligned to design and manufacture. On the stand, our Automotive sales engineers were able to engage with companies wanting to discuss specific applications, and who were interested in the extensive range that we supply to this industry. The networking this year exceeded our expectations and once again proved to us that this was the place to be seen in this sector. It goes without saying that we’ve already booked our place at next year’s show!”
As well as showcasing its products, TR also featured a Honda RC-51 SP2 motorbike on its stand, ridden by Superbike racer Ryan Strafford, who is sponsored by TR. Ryan, who competes in the prestigious Golden Era Superbikes series run by Thundersport GB, was present at the TR stand alongside his motorbike to sign merchandise and answer questions from visitors. TR is a key supplier to Boon Siew Honda, manufacturer of the Honda Motorcycle 2-wheelers, and has just been awarded its Best Quality Supplier Award

TR Fastenings Attending Automechanika Birmingham for Second Year
Fastenings firm exhibiting in new ‘supplier zone’ at 2017 show, stand 6E42
TR Fastenings (TR) will be exhibiting at Automechanika Birmingham from 6th-8th June 2017, when the successful exhibition for the automotive supply chain returns to the NEC for its second year.
Glenda Roberts, Group Sales and Marketing Director at TR, said of the 2016 show, “We were very impressed with the organisation of the exhibition, and the footfall which generated business opportunities. The showcase gave us a great platform to demonstrate the range of our products and our capabilities to a wide and discerning audience, and we had no hesitation in booking a stand for 2017.”
Having considered feedback from major delegates including TR following the 2016 exhibition, Automechanika organisers have introduced a dedicated ‘supplier zone’ to the 2017 show, increasing opportunities for suppliers dealing with Tier 1 firms rather than purely the aftermarket audience. This show will be an ideal chance for UK customers to meet the TR team and find out more about its Automotive fastening solutions. TR is encouraging companies to bring their design or application issues to the show where they can be discussed with the team of fastener engineers, who will be hosting a “Fastener Surgery” at the stand.
As well as showcasing its products, TR will also be giving visitors the chance to view the Honda RC-51 SP2 motorbike, ridden by Superbike racer Ryan Strafford, who is sponsored by TR. Ryan, who competes in the prestigious Golden Era Superbikes series run by Thundersport GB, will be present at the TR stand alongside his motorbike to sign merchandise and answer questions about the machine and his successful racing career. TR is a key supplier to Boon Siew Honda, manufacturer of the Honda Motorcycle 2-wheelers, and has just been awarded their Best Quality Supplier Award.
TR is a member of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), and has benefitted greatly from its association with the organisation. Automechanika has added another dimension to TR’s position within the automotive industry, giving it greater exposure to an even wider audience.
Glenda Roberts adds: “One of the appeals of the exhibition to TR was its worldwide reach and popularity. With 27 sites across the world, TR is a truly global business and what appeals to our customers is that we can support them in multiple sites to ensure a consistent and efficient service. Automechanika was a hugely successful event for us last year, providing us with valuable opportunities to make new connections with major decision makers from global powerhouse firms. The addition of the supplier zone this year also ensures we can attract and engage with the right audiences for our business, allowing us to showcase our knowledge and expertise. We are thrilled to have Ryan and his bike with us on the stand this year as an example of our close connections with the automotive industry.”
Automechanika Birmingham Proves a Great Showcase for TR Fastenings
Recently returned from exhibiting at Automechanika in Birmingham – the first time this leading exhibition for the automotive supply chain has come to the UK - Glenda Roberts, Global Sales Director at TR Fastenings, reflects on how the show proved to be an extremely effective opportunity to raise the company’s profile, forge new business connections and engage in discussions about the state of the automotive market generally – and where it’s heading.
“At TR Fastenings, we manufacture and distribute fastenings and components that are widely used within the automotive sector. It accounts for 35% of our UK turnover, so it’s a hugely important sector for us and one we are keen to develop. Our particular focus is on supporting the Tier1s as a full service provider; giving end2end support from design and manufacture through to smart logistic solutions in order to reduce the total cost of ownership. So, when we heard that the Automechanika show was taking place at the NEC this June and the concept was to have a strong contingent of component suppliers there, we felt it would be a great chance to promote what TR is doing for the booming UK automotive industry.”
“We viewed Automechanika as a great showcase for our own manufactured cold forged special fasteners and so we invested in a new ‘British’ styled stand and manned it with mostly technical people, as that was our target audience - specifiers and designers. We showcased many of the special automotive parts that we manufacture and supply to Tier1s. These range from complex multi stage cold formed parts, special forged seating and safety critical components to other bespoke parts, such as clips and plastic fasteners.
“We were busy within the first hour and this continued over the whole three days of the show. We are now busy following up with the many visitors we had on the stand, and are dealing with the specific product and technical requests that were generated. Consequently, we have signed up for next year and are looking forward to seeing the components halls expand. In short, a well organised show which we took full advantage of.”
Echoing Glenda’s positive comments, Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, stated, “The UK automotive industry has hit record sales over the last few years. Britain’s car industry is booming, exporting more than ever, and it’s encouraging to see this opening up huge opportunities for the UK supply sector.
“A strong domestic supply chain is critical to a successful automotive sector and we are confident that, with the right political and economic conditions, significant supply chain investment can be secured, delivering more jobs and growth.”
