TR Self Clinch Clip-On Standoff installation

The TR Self Clinch Clip-on Standoff can be installed into a pre-punched or pre-drilled hole using a press capable of a squeezing action, causing the parent material to flow in to the specially designed under head configuration offering a load bearing joint.

1 Step 1 Clip on Standoff Step 1

Select the appropriate hole size from the table below for the stand-off size required. Punch the hole diameter into the sheet.

2 Step 2 Clip on Standoff Step 2

Place the standoff spigot end into the hole on the side opposite the mating face, so that stand-off rests on the head. Ensure both plate and stand-off are aligned along the same axis. If the stand-off is not seated ‘square’ in the hole, the joint will be imperfect and mating threads will mis-align

3 Step 3 Clip on Standoff Step 3

Using a punch, apply only sufficient pressure to ‘squeeze’ the head into the parent sheet.

4 Step 4 Clip on Standoff Step 4

The fastener when properly installed should be flush with the sheet, the clip spigot left clear and square to the sheet to accept a mating component.

Using the table below with reference to the specific size of the fastener, select the correct hole size for the installation of the fastener.

For the best dimensional accuracy and therefore performance, TR recommends that all holes in the sheet metal application be punched.

Note it is essential that the recommended Hole tolerances be observed.
